[8L] 18x8 or 18x7.5

hello

for Audi A3 8L, can you tell me please the differences if we put alloys 18x8 or 18x7.5 ? which are better, both for aesthetics and driving behaviour ?

also I think the default wheels are 15" with ET35
if the 18x8 alloys are ET37, there will be any problem? are they compatible?

thanks

Hi,

18-inch-rims with ET35 or ET37 should fit perfect for 8L. I don´t think that there will be a big difference concerning driving behavior, because this depends first of all on the tires you use. Btw: you should mount 225/40-18, this fits perfect for 8L.

Don´t forget, jumping from 15 to 18 inch you will feel that you car will loose some liveliness, except you own a S3 ;-D

Hi,

I have 8x18 ET35 on my A3. Tires are 215 / 40 R18 because I only have an 1.6er  On the front I have 5mm "Spurplatten" (?) and on the back 10mm per side without bodywork.

I´m not sure: probably spacing ring is the best translation?

@greenman: please enter some date into your profile, this helps us helping you, thanks!

I don't know if any difference will be noticable, since the 18" alloys are 10,5kg which means, I think, lighter than the original 15" alloys!

The rims are bigger, so that more material = more weight. Only if you buy some special alloys, they might be lighter ;-D But doing this, you will spend a lot of money!
In addition, the weight is more outside of the axis, so that you need more torque to turn it.

Ask emmA3, he already wrote, that he has chosen smaller tires, in order to bring down weight and roll resistance. Even with my powerful 8L I had, 131 PS and 310 Nm, you felt that the liveliness was slowed down.

Murdoc_vs_ba is right. I also thought that rims are less weight but it isn't. you will notice a change of the behaviour of your car, but it is not that bad everybody will make u believe! some in this forum got a 1.6er and have 19" rims and the car rolls anyway - not fast, but it rolls.

(Sorry for my english)
